Greg Amodio, Duquesne’s athletic director, is trading in his post at Pittsburgh for the same spot in Hamden, Ct. at Quinnipiac University.
Amodio has served Duquesne for nearly 10 years, during which he oversaw the A.J. Palumbo Center’s over $5 million in improvements and Rooney Field renovations. In 2010, he made the decision to cut Duquesne’s baseball, wrestling, men’s golf, and men’s swimming programs in a strategic restructuring that intended to reallocate over $1 million to other sports. During his stay with the Dukes, the school was selected as the host site for rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships in 2012, 2015, and 2018 at the CONSOL Energy Center.
Phillip Racicot, who currently serves as associate athletics director for administration, has been named interim director of athletics by university president Charles Dougherty.
According to www.goduquesne.com, the Long Island, NY native previously served as assistant director of marketing and promotions as well as assistant athletic director before becoming associate athletic director at Xavier University. As associate athletic director, Amodio helped the men’s basketball attendance reach 97 percent capacity and women’s basketball attendance increase 150 percent.
After his 10-year stay at Xavier, Amodio signed a contract extension in March 2013 that agreed to keep him at Duquesne through the 2017-18 academic year, according to www.goduquesne.com.
Amodio’s last day at Duquesne will be July 2.
