New Duquesne Dukes head coach Jim Ferry announced his inaugural recruiting class on Tuesday, as the team will welcome five new recruits to the squad, with four eligible to play in 2012-2013.
The class features three guards, including Jeremiah Jones of Gary Ind,, Derrick Colter of Forestville, Md., and junior college transfer Marvin Binney of Toronto, Ontario who will be entering his sophomore season. All three should be expected to receive a shot at playing time given the departures of Mike Talley and T.J. McConnell.
Another freshman to sign was 6-foot-5 swingman Quevyn Winters of Milwaukee, Wis. is a due threat, averaging 22 points and nine rebounds per game while playing for M.A.C.K. Prep in Charlotte, N.C. last season.
The final player to commit was a very interesting one for Ferry, as 6-foot-8 forward Ovie Soko of London, England announced that he is transferring from UAB to Duquesne. In three seasons with the Blazers, Soko played in 88 games while starting in 59. In 2011-2012, Soko recorded eight double-doubles while averaging 8.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. While he is not eligible to play in 2012-2013, he will have one more year of eligibility in 2013-2014 and should fill in nicely as a one-year stop gap as Ferry continues to rebuild the Dukes.
