Duquesne (13-7, 3-4) defeated George Mason (7-13, 1-6) 86-75 this afternoon in Fairfax in a game moved up a day due to winter storm Jonas.
The win marked fourth-year head coach Jim Ferry’s 300th win and tied Duquesne’s highest single-season win total under Ferry.
Senior guard Micah Mason led the Dukes and court with 23 points, including four 3-pointers. Senior guard Derrick Colter and junior forward L.G. Gill added 19 and 18 points, respectively. Gill drained five 3-pointers.
Freshman guard Jaire Grayer led George Mason with 17 points.
Duquesne went 28-of-41 from the line, led by Colter’s 14-of-17 performance, and shot .479. The Dukes finished 12-of-28 from the arc.
“We shot the heck out of it early and that showed a lot of mental toughness,” Ferry said, according to goduquesne.com. “I give our guys a lot of credit to pull out a win under some unusual circumstances on the road.”
Duquesne led 45-31 at halftime before George Mason answered with a 13-0 run to make it 52-48 with 13 minutes left in regulation.
The Dukes held the Patriots to .347 shooting.
Duquesne returns home to play La Salle (5-11, 1-4) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Palumbo Center.
