Duquesne (15-7, 5-4) defeated Saint Louis (8-13, 3-6) 78-67 tonight at Chaifetz Arena to win its fifth game in its past six contests.
Senior guards Derrick Colter and Micah Mason each scored 23 points to lead the Dukes and court. Freshman guard Mar’Qywell Jackson added a career-high tying 10 points and grabbed a career-best 7 rebounds. Junior center Darius Lewis and sophomore forward TySean Powell each added 9 rebounds.
The Dukes outrebounded the Billikens 43-36.
Senior guard Ash Yacoubou led Saint Louis with 18 points.
Duquesne missed 18 of its first 21 field goal attempts to fall behind 19-7 with nine minutes to go in the first half, according to goduquesne.com. The Dukes responded with an 18-6 run to take a 30-27 lead at the half.
Duquesne shot 38.7 percent and netted 9-of-26 from the arc. Saint Louis shot 37.5 percent and knocked down 9-of-23 from the arc.
Tonight’s win secures the first time since the 2010-11 season (7-0) that the Dukes will enter February with a winning conference record. Duquesne’s 15-7 overall record marks the program’s best since the 2011 season opened 16-6, according to goduquesne.com.
The Dukes host Davidson (12-7, 4-4) Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Palumbo Center.
