Duquesne (15-12, 5-9) dropped a 77-74 decision to Rhode Island (15-2, 7-7) yesterday in a game that came down to the foul line.
Despite finishing with four more field goals than the Rams, the Dukes made 10 free throws to the Rams’ 21.
Senior guard Micah Mason led the Dukes and court with 23 points, making it his sixth-straight 20-plus game. Sophomore forwards Eric James and TySean Powell added 13 and 11 points, respectively. Powell scored 10 of his 11 points in the second half.
Sophomore guard Jared Terrell led Rhode Island with 20 points.
The loss marked Duquesne’s fifth in a row.
The Dukes gained their first lead at 51-50 with 13:36 to go. The Rams held a 70-66 lead with 1:36 remaining.
Duquesne outshot Rhode Island overall, marking 54.5 percent to the Rams’ 50.9 percent.
Duquesne travels to play St. Bonaventure (18-7, 10-4) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Reilly Center.
