The Duquesne Dukes opened their season Saturday afternoon with a 91-51 triumph over the visiting Bluefield State Blues at the A.J. Palumbo Center.
Derrick Colter led all scorers with a career-high 26 points, including seven three pointers. Micah Mason, making his debut at point guard for the Dukes, added 16 points and nine assists. Eric James had 14 points and seven boards off the bench for the Dukes. Dominique McKoy was also strong off the bench with 8 rebounds.
Dajon Reno led the Blues in scoring with 22 points.
The Dukes shot 55% from the field in the game and used a 48-30 rebounding edge to help build the 40 point lead. Bluefield State shot only 27% from the field.
Head coach Jim Ferry, in his third season with the Dukes, spoke highly of his team’s depth. “We had a lot of young guys do a lot of good things. I thought the game changed right when we went to our bench. They gave us great energy.”
Duquesne is back in action November 22nd on the road against Abilene Christian.
