Boone—Jerry Jones scored a career-high 22 points and the Dukes shot 41 percent from the field in a game that came down to the final minute. Kadeem Pantophlet also had one of his best games of the season, with 11 points and 7 rebounds.
Duquesne came out with guns a-blazing, shooting 50 percent in the opening period, including 7 of 12 from 3-point range. This helped them get out to a commanding 19 point lead with less than two minutes to play in the 1st half. The visiting team managed to go into the locker room with a 14 point advantage.
Appalachian State (1-5) gave Duquesne (3-3) some trouble in the 2nd half. The home team was able to gain the lead multiple times but never for much longer than a minute. Duquesne trailed by two with 47 seconds to go, but Quevyn Winters hit a 3-pointer 16 seconds later to put the Dukes ahead for good.
Ten different Duquesne players scored in the game Wednesday night, which also featured eight ties. Nathan Healy had 21 points for Appalachian State, while Tab Hamilton had 19. Jay Canty recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Duquesne overcame 17 turnovers, but dominated in the paint, outscoring their opponents 34-16.
