Duquesne (15-14, 5-11) fell to Richmond (15-13, 7-9) 83-67 tonight in dropping its seventh-straight game.
Senior guard Derrick Colter led the Dukes with 20 points. Sophomore forward Eric James added 16 points. Senior guard Micah Mason contributed 15 points and 7 assists.
Senior forward Terry Allen led the Spiders and court with 25 points.
The Dukes struggled defensively, allowing the Spiders to shoot 52.7% from the field.
“I thought we got beat by a better team today,” head coach Jim Ferry said. “I thought they executed significantly better than we did. I thought their front court totally outplayed our front court. For the first time this year as a team I thought we just couldn’t guard them.”
Mason, who shot 3-for-11 from the field and 2-for-8 from the arc, said his team had difficulty keeping up with Richmond’s offense.
“I think you have to give credit to Richmond,” Mason said. “They take us out of rhythm. They play in a matchup zone and we didn’t really have any answers tonight. I thought they played well on the defensive end.”
Ferry said his team will turn their focus to Wednesday night’s matchup with Fordham (15-12, 6-10).
“I don’t think we’re at where we could be but I also know how close we are going into tournament play right now,” Ferry said. “We will be a very dangerous team come tournament time.”
Duquesne hosts Fordham on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Palumbo Center.
