Duquesne (12-7, 2-4) fell 93-71 to VCU (14-5, 6-0) last night at the Siegel Center in a game plagued by turnovers.
The Dukes turned the ball over 18 times, according to goduquesne.com.
Junior forward L.G. Gill led Duquesne and the court with 18 points. Senior guards Derrick Colter and Micah Mason added 17 and 15, respectively. Sophomore forward Eric James contributed 13 points and 9 rebounds for the Dukes.
Junior guard Doug Brooks and junior forward Mo Alie-Cox led VCU with 16 points each.
Duquesne fourth-year head coach Jim Ferry praised VCU.
“I thought they were the most physical team we’ve played,” Ferry said, according to goduquesne.com. “I thought we should have gotten to the foul line a little bit more. It was a competitive game for a while and then we kept fouling them and its really hard to overcome against a really good team.”
The Dukes turned the ball over nine times in the final nine minutes of the half that ended with VCU up 44-31.
The Rams finished 10-of-17 from the arc, hitting eight of their first 11 3-point attempts. VCU shot .525 overall.
The Dukes finished at .439 from the field.
Duquesne faces George Mason (7-12, 1-5) on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Fairfax.
