Duquesne (15-8, 5-5) fell to Davidson (13-8, 5-5) 93-82 today at Palumbo Center, snapping a three-game win streak.
Senior guards Derrick Colter and Micah Mason led the Dukes with 22 and 21 points, respectively. Mason added 8 assists and Colter contributed 6 in the loss.
Junior guard Jack Gibbs led the Wildcats and court with 25 points.
Davidson outscored Duquesne 21-10 off turnovers and 21-11 in second chance points, according to goduquesne.com.
“There’s no excuses,” Mason said. “They came out and out-toughened us in every area of the game tonight.”
Fourth year Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry said his team lacked flow in the game.
“I thought we got beat on things that we’ve been beating people on,” Ferry said. “We got beat on 50-50s, we got outrebounded—they had 21 offensive rebounds and gave up 26 foul shots—so it was a really disappointing effort on our part.”
The Dukes outshot the Wildcats 43.8 percent to 42.1 percent and knocked down 13 3-pointers to Davidson’s 12.
Freshman guard Mar’Qywell Jackson came off the bench to post a career-high 13 points on the night.
Ferry praised Jackson’s offensive performance.
“He was giving us a scoring threat and he’s been playing well. He’s earned that. I thought he stepped up and made some really big plays for us, big shots for us, in our comeback,” Ferry said of his team’s late 10-2 run.
The Dukes travel to face Dayton (18-3, 8-1) Tuesday at 7 p.m.
