The Duquesne men’s basketball team put up an equal scoring effort in Saturday’s exhibition game against the Mansfield Mountaineers, but it proved to be insufficient to win the contest.
Led by senior forward Jeremiah Worthem’s double-double performance of 25 points and 12 rebounds, the Mountaineers overpowered the Dukes, 79-74, at Palumbo Center,
Leading the Dukes, senior center Darius Lewis and freshman guard Mike Lewis II both netted 14 points. It was a double-double for Lewis II, who also grabbed 10 rebounds. Graduate transfer guard Emile Blackman contributed 12 points, and sophomore guard Tarin Smith scored nine points.
Every one of the dressed Duquesne players scored, with sophomores Nakye Sanders and Josh Steel not in uniform due to a violation of team rules, according to GoDuquesne.com.
Duquesne led by as much as 11 points, while Mansfield’s largest lead was six points. The game was tied for 4:29.
The Dukes missed six of their last seven shots.
Duquesne opens the regular season on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7:00 p.m. EDT against Loyola at Palumbo Center.
