Duquesne was able to open up a little bit of a lead on the road Saturday night against Dayton at University of Dayton Arena. With 7:48 left to play in the first half, the Dukes (7-13, 0-6) led the Flyers (12-7, 2-3) by a score of 20-13. But Dayton went on a 17-4 run in the remainder of the half to take a 30-24 halftime lead. The home team then went on an 11-2 run to start the 2nd half to gain a 41-26 advantage.
The losing streak continues for Duquesne, who has now lost eight in a row. Credit Dayton though for holding Duquesne’s top two scorers (Colter and Johnson) to just two points each. This is a feat no other team has been able to accomplish so far this year. It marked the end of Colter’s eleven-game streak of double-digit scoring. Colter was held to 0 for 11 from the field, while Johnson was 1 for 6.
Jerry Jones had his second straight game as the hot hand for the Dukes, with 16 points. Quevyn Winters also accumulated 16 points, while Marvin Binney had 13. Binney again saw some significant court time for the second straight game. Ferry allowed Andre Marhold to play after benching him in the previous game for underperforming as a senior. He scored 4 points in only 15 minutes of court time.
For the Flyers, forward Josh Benson had 17 points and Dyshawn Pierre had 13. Duquesne once again lost the rebounding battle by a margin of 37-30. Their top rebounder was Kadeem Pantophlet, who pulled down 7 boards.
