Sophomore forward TySean Powell announced Monday his intent to transfer from Duquesne University. Powell will not play for the rest of the season.
Powell cited personal reasons for his departure, saying in a Twitter statement, “I would like to thank the Duquesne basketball program for allowing me to pursue my dream of playing college basketball, but at this stage in my career I feel that it is best to move on to different opportunities that fit me as a player and as the family oriented person that I am.”
Head coach Jim Ferry supported Powell’s decision.
“Ty informed me that he was leaving the team effective immediately for personal reasons,” said Ferry. “We wish him nothing but the best and will provide full support for him to complete his semester here successfully.”
Powell averaged 6.3 points and 4.9 rebounds in 20.6 minutes per game. He played in 26 games.
Powell plans to leave Duquesne following his completion of the current academic semester.
