Rising sophomore guard Tarin Smith committed to Duquesne yesterday for the 2015-2016 season. The Nebraska University transfer will have three years of eligibility remaining.
The Dukes recruited Smith after his high school career at St. Anthony High School in New Jersey, where he was an Associated Press All-State honoree in his senior year.
While at Nebraska, Smith averaged 4.5 points per game, playing in all 31 of his team’s contests. He averaged 17.6 minutes per game. As a freshman, Smith ranked fourth on his team in scoring, shooting 45 percent from the field and 33 percent from the arc.
Smith earned several honors during his time at Nebraska, notably being recognized as a member of the 2015 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. To earn a spot on the Osborne Citizenship Team, student-athletes were required to complete a minimum of six community service projects during the academic year and remain in good academic standing. Smith also was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll for the fall of 2014, which requires recipients to maintain a 3.0 GPA during the semester.
Smith contributed his previously established connection with the Duquesne coaching staff as one of the factors in deciding to commit to the Dukes’ roster.
Smith will sit out during the 2015-2016 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
