No. 11 Duquesne (12-18, 7-12) looks to defeat No. 6 George Washington (20-11, 10-8) in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Championship tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Ny.
The Dukes are looking to win multiple A-10 Championship games for the first time since its run to the title game in 2009. Duquesne has won multiple games four times: 1977, 1981, 1985 and 2009, with their lone Championship win in 1977.
Duquesne posted its third A-10 Championship opening round win in 20 years last night over No. 14 Saint Louis with the 61-55 effort. Duquesne tied the tournament record for 12 blocked shots in last night’s win.
Tonight marks the first time the Dukes have faced a No. 6 seed in its 36 A-10 Championship appearances.
Duquesne is 2-3 all-time against George Washington at the A-10 Championship, with the last meeting in 2001, which was won 88-65 by the Colonials in Philadelphia. Duquesne and George Washington split home wins in regular season play with the Colonials winning 74-59 on January 24 and the Dukes winning 78-62 on February 11.
This will be the 75th meeting in a series dating back to 1932, led 46-28 by George Washington and 40-23 in the A-10 regular season.
Last night’s Saint Louis win for Duquesne marked the first time the Dukes scored under 72 points in eight games prior to the A-10 Championship.
