Duquesne (8-16, 3-10) suffered an 87-72 loss Wednesday night to La Salle (15-11, 7-6) at the Tom Gola Arena in Philadelphia, Pa.
Redshirt sophomore guard Jordan Price led the court in scoring 19 points in the Explorers’ wire-to-wire win. Price hit five three-pointers in the effort.
Duquesne junior guards Micah Mason and Derrick Colter had 16 and 11 points, respectively. Sophomore forward L.G. Gill added 10 points off the bench.
La Salle jumped to a 15-2 early lead in knocking down five of its first six 3-point attempts three minutes into the game. The Explorers replicated their first half effort in hitting three 3-pointers in the first 4:08 of the second half, extending their lead to 55-36. La Salle shot 13-of-30 from the arc, with six players hitting at least one 3-pointer.
Duquesne shot 40.9 percent from the field and netted 9-of-12 from the foul line.
The Explorers have won the last five games in the series, which dates back to 1940. The La Salle defense entered the game with an opponent average of 62.0 ppg.
With his 11 point performance, Colter has now moved to within 15 points of becoming Duquesne’s 38th 1,000-point scorer.
Duquesne hosts Dayton (20-5, 10-3) today in the annual Chuck Cooper Classic at 2 pm ET at the CONSOL Energy Center.
The Dukes vs. Flyers matchup is the 71st meeting in a series dating back to 1953. Dayton leads the series 48-22, including 26-8 in regular Atlantic 10 play.
