Duquesne (6-10, 1-4) will take on St. Bonaventure (10-6, 3-2) tomorrow at 7:00 pm ET at the A.J. Palumbo Center in beginning a stretch of three games for the Dukes in seven days.
This is the 113th meeting in a series dating back to 1920 that is led 58-54 by Duquesne, including a 30-28 lead in Atlantic 10 regular season games. Duquesne owns more conference wins over St. Bonaventure (30) than any other Atlantic 10 competitor. The Dukes lead the Bonnies 39-15 in games played at Pittsburgh. St. Bonaventure is Duquesne’s most frequent all-time opponent; this is the 64th consecutive season the two teams have met.
The last four games between the two teams have been decided by eight or fewer points. The Dukes have won six of the last seven games at the Palumbo Center.
St. Bonaventure is coming off back-to-back home wins over George Mason (75-55) and Saint Joseph’s (70-61). In those two games, seven-foot senior center Youssou Ndoye averaged 21.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and assists to earn co-Atlantic 10 Player of the Week. Junior guard Marcus Posley leads the Dukes with 17.4 ppg. Each of St. Bonaventure’s five starters, including freshman guard Jaylen Adams, is averaging in double-digit points and playing over 30 minutes/g.
Duquesne’s junior guards Derrick Colter and Micah Mason rank as the nation’s third-best 3-point shooting backcourt at a combined .468 through last week.
Three of Duquesne’s 10 losses have been decided in a one-possession game and two of the Dukes’ five Atlantic 10 games have been determined by the last possession. Despite its record, Duquesne is outscoring opponents 70.9 to 70.8.
