Pittsburgh—After a rough 1st half, Duquesne came out in the 2nd half knowing they would have to play more physically. The Dukes found themselves down by as much as 15, but Ferry and his young team found a way to turn things around and record a 60-56 win at Consol Energy Center.
Both teams shot poorly. Duquesne was 24 for 56 on the night, 3 for 19 in 3-pointer shooting. It was simply a matter of Duquesne wanting it more in the 2nd half.
The Dukes outrebounded their opponents 43-39. Jerry Jones was the leader in scoring with 16 points, while Colter followed close behind with 12.
Jones’ 3-pointer with 3:25 remaining put the Dukes ahead 53-51. West Virginia would go on to tie it up, but that didn’t last long. Colter converted layups with 2:02 and 1:17 to go, and it was all downhill from there.
West Virginia missed many chances to put Duquesne away early on. For the Dukes, the 15-point deficit they overcame was the largest come from behind victory in at least seven years.
