The Duquesne women’s basketball team has become accustomed to winning.
After setting the record for longest home winning streak in program history earlier in the season, the Dukes are also showing hey can get it done away from the Palumbo Center as well.
Duquesne ran its road win streak to nine games on Sunday with a 71-67 victory at VCU. In the process it gave Duquesne the most road wins in the country on the season.
The win improved Duquesne to 19-2 overall and 7-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
Duquesne’s April Robinson led all scorers with 25 points and added nine rebounds. Chassidy Omogrosso added 13 points while Kadri-Ann Lass 12.
Things stayed close for the entire first half as VCU took a 34-32 lead into the locker room.
VCU eventually extended that lead to five in the third quarter before the Dukes put together an 11-3 run that gave them a 53-50 advantage. Duquesne eventually would lead by as many as eight in the fourth quarter, which proved to be enough to close things out.
VCU’s Adaeze Aleaze scored a team-high 16 points. Isis Thorpe added 13 and Ashley Pegram 10 for the Rams.
The game finished with nine ties and 15 lead changes.
The Dukes return home to face Massachusetts (6-14, 0-8) on Wednesday.
