The Duquesne women’s basketball team used a big fourth quarter Thursday night, outscoring George Mason 23-12, to come away with a 72-56 victory at EagleBank Arena in Atlantic 10 Conference action.
The win extended the Dukes winning streak to 13 games.
Duquesne’s (14-1, 2-0) Deva’Nyar Workman led the way with a double-double with game-high 21 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high seven assists. It was Workman’s sixth career double-double.
Amadea Szamosi added 13 points and April Robinson scored 11 with seven assists. Kadri-Ann Lass scored 13 had a career-high six blocks. Robinson scored her 1,300th career point and moved past Amy Alger into 11th place on Duquesne’s all-time scoring list with 1,309 points.
The game was tight early on and Duquesne trailed midway through the third quarter, but the Dukes went on a 10-2 run to eventually take a seven-point lead. That lead was cut to 51-20 early in the fourth quarter before Duquesne put together a 16-4 spurt that put the game away.
Duquesne didn’t shoot the ball very well, making just 23-of-60 attempts on the night, including 7-of 26 from 3-point range.
The difference in the game was that Duquesne forced 17 George Mason turnovers and turned that into 25 points.
“We didn’t play very well tonight and credit should go to George Mason, they had a great game plan and executed well against us,” Duquesne head coach Dan Burt said after the game. “Dev played well for us again, her ability to rebound from the guard position is a difference maker.”
George Mason (6-9, 1-1) was led in scoring by Taylor Brown with 16 points.
Duquesne will look to extend their winning streak to 14 when they host Fordham (6-9, 1-1 A-10) on Sunday.
