The Duquesne women’s basketball team continued its tremendous start to the season over the past week and once again, they were noticed.
For the third time this season, the Dukes have swept the Atlantic 10 weekly awards with Deva’Nyar Workman winning Player of the Week and Kadri-Ann Lass being named Rookie of the Week.
Duquesne improved to 23-2 and 11-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference by beating both Rhode Island and St. Joseph’s last week.
Workman averaged a 14.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game and recorded her ninth career double-double against Rhode Island. It was Workman’s second A-10 Player of the Week award. The recognition didn’t stop there as she was also named the College Sports Madness A-10 Player of the Week.
Lass averaged 14.0 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game during the week and was named Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season, which is one off the Duquesne record.
The Duquesne team is also gaining some traction on the national level as the Dukes moved up one spot to No. 23 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
It is beyond belief that the Dukes haven’t been ranked in the AP Poll all season, but they had 22 votes this week as that number continues to rise.
Considering Duquesne is 23-2, ranked 21st in RPI, and should be a lock to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history you would have thought they would have seen more love nationally, but if the Dukes keep on winning it will be hard to ignore them for too much longer.
