The Duquesne women’s basketball team continued their tremendous start to the season last week with wins over Pitt in the City Game and an 89-58 blowout win over Dayton in the Atlantic 10 opener for the Dukes.
Like pretty much every week so far this season, those performances turned into recognition for a couple of Duquesne players.
For the second time this season, the Dukes swept the Atlantic 10 Conference weekly awards with April Robinson earning Player of the Week honors and Chassidy Omogrosso being named Rookie of the Week.
Robinson averaged 20.5 points per game during the week. She also averaged 8.0 assists and 7.5 rebounds while making. 55.6 percent (15-27) of her shots from the floor, which including shooting 50 percent from behind the arc.
In the win over Dayton, Robinson recorded the third triple-double in Duquesne women’s basketball history with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.
Omogrosso averaged 14.0 points per game and shot 52.9 percent (9-17) from the floor for the week, including 62.5 percent of her three-point attempts.
For Robinson it is the third time she has been honored this season. It was Omogrosso’s second.
Duquesne received two votes in the latest Associated Press Top 25 women’s basketball poll, marking the first time since Jan. 28, 2013 that Duquesne has received votes in the AP Poll.
The 13-1 Dukes are riding a 12-game win streak and will take on George Mason Thursday night on the road.
