Fresh off being a ranked team for the first time in program history, the Duquesne women’s basketball team traveled to Rhode Island Wednesday night for an Atlantic 10 Conference matchup and the Dukes did what they have been doing all season long.
The took care of business.
April Robinson scored 29 points and Amadea Szamosi added 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Dukes as No. 25 ranked Duquesne extended its winning streak to 15 straight after a 79-70 victory over Rhode Island at the Ryan Center. It was Szamosi’s 14th double-figure scoring game of the season and sixth double-double. Robinson moved past Kathy Ridilla into 10th place on Duquesne’s all-time scoring list and surpassed 200 career 3-pointers in the win.
Deva’Nyar Workman also finished in double figures for Duquesne (16-1, 4-0 A-10) with 13.
Rhode Island led 20-18 after one quarter, but Robinson scored nine straight points as Duquesne outscored URI 31-12 in the second quarter to take a comfortable lead.
The Dukes took a 49-32 lead into the half before Rhode Island put together a 15-4 run in the 3rd quarter to make the score 53-47. Duquesne responded with a 13-5 spurt to go back up by double digits.
Rhode Island (7-9, 1-3 A-10) actually outshot Duquesne 45.5 percent to 37.1 percent, but the Dukes big second quarter run was enough for another win.
Samantha Tabakman scored a career-high 30 points for the Rams.
Duquesne has won 11 of their last 12 games against Rhode Island.
The Dukes will be back in action on Saturday when they host George Washington (14-3, 4-0 A-10) at noon.
