Deva’Nyar Workman scored a team-high 21. Kadri-Ann Lass added 13.
But it wasn’t enough for the Duquesne women’s basketball team as the Dukes lost for the first time since November 15, falling to George Washington 70-52 Sunday afternoon at the Palumbo Center.
The loss snapped Duquesne’s record 15-game winning streak and 19-game home winning streak.
The Dukes (16-2, 4-1 A-10) suffered their first conference loss of the season while GW (15-3, 5-0) won their 10th consecutive time.
GW’s Jonquel Jones, recorded her 15th double-double of the season with game-highs of 23 points and 18 rebounds. Hannah Schaible added 14 points and 12 boards for GW. Jones also had seven of George Washington’s 11 blocks.
The Dukes kept it close in the first half with a couple of small runs and only trailed 31-24 at the half.
But GW took off in the third quarter, going up double digits on a Schaible three-pointer. GW eventually extended that lead to as many as 21.
Duquesne closed within 13 in the fourth quarter, but the hole was too big to climb out of.
A big reason was rebounding. GW dominated on the boards with a 55-37 advantage, including 22-12 on the offensive end.
Duquesne’s last home loss before Sunday occurred Nov. 19, 2014 against Syracuse.
The Dukes are off until Saturday afternoon when they host St. Bonaventure (16-2, 5-0 A-10).
