The Edinboro Fighting Scots officially started their season today with the first spring practice of the year. The team finished 4-6 last season, the first time they’ve not had a winning record in coach Scott Browning’s career as head coach with the program.
The team is looking to take last year’s down season and use it as a spring board into the 2013 season. The Fighting Scots have eight players on offense returning and seven on the defensive side.
The team’s starting quarterback, Cody Harris, is one of the eight players to return this upcoming season. Last season he threw for 2,823 yards and 20 touchdowns, with only 8 interceptions. He also added 9 rushing touchdowns on his way to accounting for 29 of 34 total offensive touchdowns for Edinboro.
His top three receivers are also returning. Marcuus Johnson, Ben Eisel, and Kevin Sonnie accounted for 13 of Harris’ 20 touchdowns last season.
The offensive line has three starters coming back as well, and is looking to provide solid protection for their senior quarterback.
On the defensive side of the ball, the strongest spot is the defensive line. The entire d-line is returning, including Nick Soto, Chris Williams and Bobby Kmetz.
In camp this spring, Browning will be looking for someone to step up at the middle linebacker spot as well as in the secondary. Former corner back Brendan Williams is gone this season. He ranks third in school history in career interceptions. Kenny Pettis, the team’s leading tackler last season, is also gone.
With the spring well under way for the Fighting Scots, Browning will continue to look for players to step up.
