The Penguins got an early start on their weekend as the beat the Ottawa Senators 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Christian Ehrhoff broke open a tied game when he scored the game-winning goal with just 1:50 remaining in the third period. He took a cross-ice pass from Sidney Crosby and fired a blistering slap shot from the right that overpowered Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson.
The second assist on the play went to Craig Adams. By playing in the game, Adams set a franchise record with his 314th consecutive game, breaking the mark held by Ron Schock since 1977.
Marc-Andre Fleury earned his second consecutive victory by making 27 saves. He also recorded his first two penalty minutes on a high-sticking call 28 seconds into the third period.
It was among 57 penalty minutes called by referees Francis Charron and Wes McCauley.
Early in the first period, Penguins left-winger Zach Sill was ejected following a huge neutral zone hit on Ottawa forward Kyle Turris. Sill was then jumped by Senators right-winger Alex Chaisson. Sill bloodied Chaisson in the fight, but was booked for an interference major in addition to a fighting major and a game misconduct. Chaisson also received two minutes for instigating.
Evgeni Malkin, who had been in the penalty box serving his own minor penalty, was freed from the box :45 seconds later and stared the scoring started off with an incredible breakaway goal 4:17 into the first period.
Ottawa would jump back in the second period, with goals from Milan Michalek and Mika Zibanejad giving the Senators a 2-1 lead. The Michalek goal was scored on a deflection of an Erik Karlsson point shot on the power play. The Penguins penalty kill finished the game 4-for-5.
The Penguins got a power play goal of their own, and evened the score, with 1:57 remaining in the second period when Brandon Sutter redirected an Olli Maata wrister to beat Anderson.
Rob Klinkhammer, less than 24 hours after he was acquired from Arizona, played 11:01, recorded five hits, and drew two penalties in his Penguins debut.
