Duquesne men’s basketball head coach Jim Ferry continues to build upon his program’s resilience and identity with the 2015-16 recruiting class. Harlow, England native Josh Steel, who signed a National Letter of Intent Wednesday, is the newest addition to the Dukes’ roster.
Steel, a guard from Barking Abbey Academy, was named the 32nd-best 1997-born prospect in Europe by www.eurohopes.com. He represented England at both the U18 & U16 Division B European Championships, averaging 13 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. His efforts led Barking Abbey to the 2015 Elite Academy Basketball League Elite 8 during the 2014-15 season.
Steel was the third British player to compete in the Jordan Brand Classic International Game as a member of the European team at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Ny. in April 2013. The annual game features the top U16 players in the world. Steel was named the England Basketball Under-16 Player of the Year in April 2014.
Prior to committing to Duquesne, Steel was recruited by Texas-San Antonio, Drexel, Florida Atlantic, Western Kentucky and Fordham.
Ferry, who emphasized his team’s need for building a strong foundation at the end of the Dukes’ 2014-15 season, has recruited three new players for the upcoming 2015-16 season. Among Steel are Nebraska transfer Tarin Smith and Staten Island, NY native Nakye Sanders from Tottenville. Steel is the third and final member of Duquesne’s 2015-16 recruiting class.
