The journey from undrafted free agent to the ranks of the NFL has finally come for former Cal U safety Rontez Miles.
Miles, who went undrafted in 2013, has been on the New York Jets practice squad off and on since graduating and trying to make it in the world of pro football.
It was announced Tuesday that Miles has been added to the Jets 53-man roster. The Jets released corner back Josh Thomas and brought Miles up.
The move makes sense, Miles having had a solid preseason this past year with the Jets and many thinking he should’ve already been inserted into the lineup with the Jets New York is currently 3-11 and rank 20th in the league in defending the pass.
Miles had quite a year at Cal from the time he stepped on campus. He was named PSAC West Freshman of the Year and was a second-team All-PSAC selection as a freshman. From there, he garnered first-team status on the PSAC squad as well as First-Team All-American honors during his junior and senior year. During his junior season he was named PSAC West Defensive Player of the Year. He also garnered several Defensive Player of the Year awards from various places during both his junior and senior season.
