Former Pirates Brian Giles and Jason Schmidt have been named to the 2015 Hall of Fame ballot which is voted on by the BBWAA.
Giles was acquired from the Indians in 1998 for Ricardo Rincon and spent 4 1/2 seasons in Pittsburgh before being sent to San Diego for Jason Bay, Oliver Perez and minor leaguer Corey Stewart.
While with the Pirates, Giles posted a slash line of .308/.426/.591 and an OPS of 1.018 with 165 HR, 174 doubles, 26 triples and 506 RBI in 715 games played.
Giles is most known for his wall-climbing catch robbing Brandon Phillips of a home run.
Jason Schmidt was acquired from the Braves in exchange for Denny Neagle in August of 1996 and played in 4 1/2 seasons with the Pirates.
During that time, Schmidt posted a 44-47 record with a 4.39 ERA in 129 starts while striking out 596 and walking 322 in 799 2/3 innings.
Schmidt played a major role in the 1997 “Freak Show” team going 10-9 with a 4.60 ERA while striking out 136 and walking 76 in 187 2/3 innings.
He was traded to the Giants in 2001 along with John Vander Wal in exchange for Armando Rios and Ryan Vogelsong.
MLB will announce the results on January 7th, 2015.
