With the collegiate basketball season right around the corner, the Duquesne Dukes added another piece to the 2014-15 team.
Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry announced that 6’5” guard Mar’Qywell Jackson, a consensus 3-star recruit out of Detroit, has committed to the Dukes and will be part of the men’s basketball program this fall.
Jackson attended classes at UTEP this summer before deciding to transfer and will have four seasons of eligibility at Duquesne. However it is uncertain whether his summer enrollment at UTEP will affect his eligibility for the 2014-15 season.
He averaged 26.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game at East English Village Prep last season and was named to the 2014 All-Detroit team by the Detroit Free Press.
Jackson was also rated the No. 6 player in the state of Michigan by 247sports.com.
“Mar’Qywell is a versatile player who is comfortable at both guard spots as well as small forward,” said Ferry, via a Duquesne press release. “His size and length brings an added dimension to the backcourt. At 6-5, his ability to rebound from the guard spot is also a big plus. Mar’Qywell comes to us from a quality program at East English Prep under head coach Juan Rickman. We are excited to have him at Duquesne.”
The Dukes will look to improve from a 13-17 finish (5-11 A-10) last season and adding a talent like Jackson could help the program down the road.
The signing of Jackson rounds out the roster for the Dukes as he takes up the final scholarship Duquesne had to offer this season.
