Pittsburgh Penguins (5-2)
The Pittsburgh Penguins played their toughest game on Saturday and will continue to be challenged as the series goes on. Matt Murray played incredibly well and made big stops to keep their team within range of tying the series.
Coach Mike Sullivan knows these challenges will continue to be seen, but he has the utmost confidence in his team to come away with the series win. Pittsburgh must continue to play a speedy style of hockey and protect Murray and the net from being collapsed on by Washington.
Olli Maatta’s is out for tonight’s game. This injury adds to the long list of issues the young defenseman has had in his short career.
Washington Capitals (5-3)
The Washington Capitals were not far off of coming away with a 2-0 series lead. Braden Holtby kept his team close the whole game, but could not pick up on the deflected puck from Evgeni Malkin to Eric Fehr.
Alex Ovechkin will have to step up in a major way in the next two games if the Capitals want to move on to the next round. T.J. Oshie, who had a big first game, was not a major contributor in Game 2 and will need to work along side the rest of his team to go back to Washington with a series lead.
Brooks Orpik received a suspension hearing with the NHL and it was later determined the former Penguin would serve a three-game suspension for his late hit on Maata.
