Coming into the week, the Gannon Golden Knights were looking at an 8-7 record. By week’s end, they were at 10-7 with a win over the No. 5 team in the country and picked up two wins over conference foes to move up in the PSAC West standings. During those two games, Adam Blazek was key.
Blazek’s numbers don’t jump off of the stat sheet as outstanding, but they got the job done.
In a 67-61 victory over No. 5 IUP, Blazek scored 13 points. With the Golden Knights down two with under a minute left to play, Blazek put in the game-tying bucket with 40 seconds left to ultimately send the game into overtime. During the overtime period, Blazek hit a key three to lead the Golden Knights to an upset victory at home. Blazek was 4-of-11 from the field, but 3-of-8 from behind the 3-point line. He also had six rebounds, four assists and a steal in the win.
Later in the week, Blazek scored 18 points to lead Gannon over Edinboro on the road, 71-59. In the win, Blazek shot 4-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc. He also went 7-of-7 from the charity stripe while pulling in three rebounds, dishing out four assists and swiping three steals.
For the season, the 6-foot-1 junior guard is averaging 15.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
For his performance this week, Blazek is this week’s Pittsburgh Sporting News player of the week.
