With only three weeks left in the regular season there are many key injuries to contending teams. Today we will look at the AL contenders. (Look for the NL update next week).
AL East
The Yankees seem to have the upper hand as they are getting two of their big guns back. The Orioles took a hit with Markakis breaking his thumb while the Rays hope David Price’s injury is minimal.
Balt – Jim Thome (Herniated disk in neck, 15-Day DL) .252 BA 7 HR 21 RBI (48 Games)
– Nick Markakis (Broken Left Thumb, Possibly out 6 Weeks) .297 BA 13 HR 53 RBI (103 Games)
NYY – Should get an extra jolt to the slump they are in with the return of A-Rod and Teixeira. (.265 BA 40 HR 131 RBI Combined)
TB – David Price (Sore Left Shoulder, Could miss a start or two) 15-5 2.54 ERA 1.12 WHIP (27 Games)
AL Central
The Central race should stay a close one as both teams are pretty healthy with the exception of Dunn and Floyd. If those two can get healthy then they could get the Sox over the top.
Det – No real injuries to report on.
Chi – Adam Dunn (Strained Right Oblique, Day-to-Day) hasn’t been in the lineup the last couple of days. .208 AVG 38 HR 88 RBI (133 Games)
– Gavin Floyd (Right Elbow Flexor Strain, 15-Day DL) 9-9 4.55 ERA 1.43 WHIP (24 Games)
AL West
Can the Angels and Rangers take advantage of the A’s recent injury woes? Weaver should help the Angels stay in the race once healthy.
Tex – Mike Napoli (Strained Left Quad, 15-Day DL) .223 BA 17 HR 40 RBI (92 Games)
Oak – Brandon Inge (Shoulder Surgery, Season) .218 BA 12 HR 54 RBI (83 Games)
