IUP, the last PSAC team left in the Atlantic Region, fell victim to the #1 team in the country Tuesday night in West Liberty, losing 86-63.
Chris Morrow and Alex Falk proved to be too much for the Crimson Hawks, as West Liberty shot 53 percent from the floor. IUP kept up on the stat sheet in every statistical category except for shooting percentage. IUP only made five three point shots, compared to West Liberty’s 13. Five players on the Hilltoppers’ squad tallied two or more shots from behind the arc over the course of the game.
West Liberty, again, played their type of game with good shot selection and ball movement. Running the floor has worked well for them and it showed tonight against IUP.
For IUP, Mathias Keita led the way with 18 points and 7 rebounds while Scooter Renkin added 16 points and 8 boards. Anthony Wells, who had come up big for IUP the entire tournament was held in check pretty well by the Hilltoppers. The guard scored only seven points on 3-11 shooting, including going 0-6 from long range.
This loss wraps up IUP’s season. The Crimson Hawks finished with a record of 26-5 and will say goodbye to five seniors including Wells and Renkin. Coach Joe Lombardi will now take his team into the off-season and try to regroup for next season.
