INDIANA, PA – The IUP athletic department has announced its complete football schedule for the upcoming 2013 season. The Crimson Hawks open the season at Southern Connecticut State on September 7 and will play five of their 11 contests in their home confines of George P. Miller Stadium.
After their season opener against the Owls, the Crimson Hawks return to Indiana to host Cheyney in their home opening on September 14. The matchup will also be the annual IUP Athletic Hall of Fame Game and will also honor the 1963 football team.
History will then be made on September 21as IUP travels to Seton Hill for the PSAC West opener. It will be the Griffins first conference football divisional game after becoming a full-fledged member of the PSAC.
The Crimson Hawks host back-to-back home games the following weeks, welcoming rival California in the Coal Bowl on September 28and Millersville on October 5. The game with the Vulcans will also be the annual Alumni Game while the Millersville matchup will be Homecoming.
IUP will play another rival on October 12, traveling to face Slippery Rock before a home contest against Edinboro on October 19. On that date IUP will also honor the 1993 national qualifying team.
The Crimson Hawks hit the road for the next two games, going to Mercyhurst on October 26 and Clarion on November 2. On October 9they’ll play in their final PSAC West game as they host Gannon on Family Weekend.
Just like last season, IUP will wrap up its regular season against Shippensburg, this time it will be on the road on November 16.This game could also be designated as the 2013 PSAC Championship if the Crimson Hawks win the Western Division. This year the game will be played at the winner of the PSAC East.
The Crimson Hawks open up spring practiceon Friday, April 5.
