The accolades keep piling up for IUP point guard Devante Chance.
Chance can now add All-American to the list as the 5-foot-11 senior point guard was named to the NABC All-American team, released on Tuesday.
After being named to this list along with the NABC All-Atlantic District team on Monday, Chance is able to be considered for the NABC Player of the Year Award.
“Anything is possible through focus, hard work, trust and support,” Chance said of achieving such status.
Chance is the first Crimson Hawk to receive such honor since Ashton Smith in 2012. He garnered the honor after averaging 16.5 points and 5.8 assists per game this season.
Chance has really come up big for IUP down the stretch. He averaged 19.0 points per game during the Atlantic Regional Tournament in three victories against Glenville State, Slippery Rock and four-time defending Atlantic Regional champion and top-5 nationally ranked West Liberty to advance to Wednesday’s national quarterfinal round against Azusa Pacific.
Chance is the only player in Atlantic Region to average at least 16 points and 5.8 assists per game. He’s also one of only four players in the country to post such numbers.
During the 2014-15 season, Chance became the school’s career leader in assists while setting a single-season school record with 202 dimes this year alone. He also eclipsed the 1,000-point mark earlier this season while becoming the fourth player in program history to score more than 1,000 points and dish out more than 400 assists.
Chance was the only PSAC player to be named to the All-American team and joined West Liberty’s Seger Bonifant as the two Atlantic Region representatives.
When Regional honors were released Monday, Chance was joined by Gannon’s Adam Blazek on the first team. From the PSAC on the second team included Antonio Butler from Slippery Rock and Gibran Smith from Gannon.
