James Harrison, linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has announced he will be returning for another NFL season. Harrison, who will be 38 during the 2016-2017 NFL season, made the announcement on Tuesday.
According to Harrison’s agent Bill Parise, Harrison plans to honor the one year left on his contract. He is due for $1,250,000 this upcoming season. However, all the money can’t account for how much Harrison’s presence is valued in the locker room.
Harrison has been showing the younger players how to become a solid NFL defensive player. At 37, Harrison had 40 tackles this season, with 27 of them being solo tackles. Harrison had a solid five sacks against opposing quarterbacks and had two forced fumbles on the year. They aren’t his best statistics, but they were enough to contribute to a top Steelers defense under defensive coordinator Keith Butler.
With another season, Harrison can also keep moving up in the ranks of NFL defensive players. Currently, Harrison sits at 37th in NFL history With 76.5 sacks for his career. Now, with another season coming up Harrison can continue to add to that number and move right up the rankings.
