Ever since new Pitt Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi took over, there has been a little more excitement about the Pitt program than usual.
Needless to say others outside of Pittsburgh like what the Panthers are bringing back, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
Pitt juniors James Conner and Tyler Boyd were honored on Monday by being named All-Americans by national college football expert Phil Steele.
Boyd was named to Steele’s first team preseason All-America squad while Conner was chosen as a second team member. This should be just the beginning of plenty of preseason honors for the Panthers’ Dynamic Duo.
Boyd is coming off a sophomore campaign in which he had 78 receptions for 1,261 yards and eight touchdowns in earning first team All-ACC last season. He also became the first wide receiver in ACC history to go over 1,000 yards receiving in each of his first two seasons.
Conner’s sophomore season was just as impressive. He rushed for 1,765 yards and 26 touchdowns which led to him being named the ACC Player of the Year.
Pitt also landed five players on Steele’s All-ACC teams.
Boyd and Conner were joined on the first team by junior offensive tackle Adam Bisnowaty. Boyd was also named the first team punt returner and fourth team kickoff returner.
In addition, junior offensive guard Dorian Johnson was named to the second team and junior kicker Chris Blewitt was named to the fourth team.
Shockingly, no Pitt defensive players were recognized, which goes to show how far the Panthers defense has to come this season.
