Harrison will not play in tonight’s game against the San Diego Padres. Instead, he has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.
He injured his thumb sliding into second base in the seventh inning of Sunday’s 5-3 win over the Cleveland Indians.
Harrison will be replaced at third base in tonight’s lineup by Jung Ho Kang. Taking Harrison’s spot on the 25-man roster will be 1B/OF Travis Ishikawa, who was claimed on waivers from the San Francisco Giants yesterday.
On the season, Harrison is hitting .279 with four home runs and 22 RBI. He has played in 75 of the Pirates’ 81 games this season, playing third base, second base, left field and right field.
The Pirates will also play without LF Starling Marte tonight. Marte left Sunday’s game with discomfort in his side and will sit out tonight. No update on his condition was available at press time. Sean Rodriguez will play left field in place of Marte this evening.
