As training camp approaches, the Pittsburgh Steelers have some work to do in terms of contract extensions before the end of camp.
We have already heard that defensive end Cameron Heyward is expected to get a new deal and there were also some early rumblings that wide receiver Antonio Brown would like a new contract as well.
Yet one guy that has seemed to get lost in the shuffle when talking about new contracts is just as important as anyone else that needs a new deal.
Offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum is entering the final year of his contract and confirmed over the weekend that no talks have taken place to date.
“I don’t know when that call is gonna come,” Beachum said in an interview with Alex Marvez and Zig Fracassi on Sirius XM NFL Radio. “It’s not the priority right now. My priority is my daughter and my wife. I know when they’re ready to talk business, we’ll talk business. Up until then, I’ll keep working hard and bettering my craft.”
Beachum, a former seventh-round pick, as established himself as a major piece of the Steelers offensive line the past couple of seasons.
He has started 28 consecutive games and has turned out to be a very solid NFL left tackle.
It isn’t uncommon for things to be very quiet on the contract front until camp begins.
Beachum, one of the hardest working players in the entire league, is scheduled to make $1.542 million this season.
A big raise is coming his way. Hopefully it will be from the Steelers.
