Washington Wild Things pitcher and pitching coach Gary Lee has been in some sort of slump as of late, but on Friday night he was able to put together a quality start and lead his team to a 4-3 victory over the Joliet Slammers.
Lee gave up the first run of the game in the top of the 1st inning. The run came off a solo shot by third baseman Niko Vasquez. Lee would give up another single before getting out of the inning with minimal damage. The Slammers tagged Lee for the second run of the game in the top of the 3rd inning. Former Wild Thing Darian Sandford scorched a triple and then scored on a Vasquez single, his second hit and RBI of the game. Again, Lee would get out of the inning with minimal damage.
The Wild Things finally got on the board in the bottom of the same inning, tying the game at two after Scott Kalamar singled and AJ Nunziato scored on a throwing error and then Tyler Hall singled home Kalamar.
Lee pitched three near perfect innings after that to put his team in a position to win. Lee only allowed a single hit during the stretch.
Washington would then take the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning on a Mark Samuelson home run. Before the game was over, the Wild Things would add one more run on an error to finish the game.
Lee lasted 6.0 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 earned runs.
The Wild Things will open up another home series against the Windy City Thunderbolts tomorrow at 7:05 pm ET with Shawn Blackwell taking the mound.
