Judging by his performance in his second season in the NFL, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell could be collecting many awards and honors throughout his pro football career.
The first of his honors came on Friday when Bell was named the 2014 Most Improved Player of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America.
Bell set a Steelers’ franchise record with 2,215 yards from scrimmage this year (second in NFL). He also set a Steelers’ record for running backs with 83 receptions and 854 receiving yards. In addition, Bell set a Steelers’ record with the most first downs (114) and rushed for the fifth-most yards (1,361) in a single season in team history.
That was close to a 1,000 yard improvement off a rookie season in which Bell rushed for 860 yards and added 399 receiving yards for 1,259 all-purpose yards.
Bell was selected to the Pro Bowl this season and has already been named a 2014 All-NFL and All-AFC selection by the PFWA.
He isn’t the first Steelers player to be named the Most Improved Player, as Kordell Stewart got the honor in 2001.
This should be just the beginning of Bell winning awards for the next few seasons as he has established himself as possibly the best all-around back in the NFL.
