As a new year begins, many people will be making new year’s resolutions and planning to take steps to change their lives for the better. Some will pledge to change bad habits into good ones and move on with their lives.
Of course some people have a hard time figuring out what they might want to do differently. I have one for those of you who might still be looking for a resolution. Why not pledge to give the Pittsburgh Power a look this year?
The Power have played arena football in the Burgh for three years now and are preparing to start their fourth season on March 15th at home against the Cleveland Gladiators. Granted the team has not had much on-the-field success but they too made a resolution this year to improve the team and so far the offseason acquisitions have this team primed for a breakout season.
The biggest area of need for the Power has been to find a legitimate arena football quarterback and they may have found one in 2012 league MVP Tommy Grady. Grady established league records in passing yards (5863) and passing touchdowns (142) that year and should easily improve on what the Power have trotted out the last few years at the position.
The Power also added 2012 first team all-arena wide receiver Aaron LeSue in the offseason. LeSue was Grady’s favorite target in that 2012 Utah offense and should provide a lot of excitement for the Pittsburgh offense this year.
The Power didn’t ignore the defensive side of the ball when making acquisitions, bringing in 2013 first team all-arena defensive back Virgil Gray from the defending league champions. Gray and standout defensive back Sergio Gilliam, who had seven interceptions and three defensive touchdowns last year, should give the Power a pretty formidable secondary.
The team didn’t stop improving with just players, they also brought in three coaches with over 40 years of playing and coaching experience in the league by hiring Kyle Moore-Brown, Leroy Thompson, and Damian Harrell.
Price shouldn’t be an issue for fans because the Power cut ticket prices considerably. You can get season tickets starting as low as two for $99 for end zone seating. Keep in mind there are no bad seats in the house and you get great entertainment value for the dollar which is a good thing in tough times. Did I mention the Sparks dance team?
All I ask is that you give them a shot. If you’ve never seen a game you’re in for an exciting brand of football. Half the field, twice the excitement!
