It was a historical night for the Washington Wild Things as pitcher Matt Sergey threw the first perfect game in the 22 year history of the Frontier League, downing the Gateway Grizzlies 6-0.
Sergey needed only 100 pitches in the game and struck out nine Grizzlies hitters en route to perfection over the team that cut him in spring training. Several of Sergey’s family members including his grandmother were in attendance for his rare feat.
The Wild Things offense was paced by three hits by shortstop Ryan Kresky and homeruns by Maxx Garrett and Andrew Heck.
The win keeps the Wild Things (52-34) in first place in the Frontier League’s East Division and they will next travel to face the other division leading River City Rascals beginning Tuesday August 26th.
