The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to hold a full practice as a team at training camp in Latrobe, but are already without five players, including a couple key ones that are down with injuries already.
Steelers Head coach Mike Tomlin announced that: Pro-Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey (foot sprain), offensive tackle Mike Adams (back), backup quarterback Bruce Gradkowski (throwing shoulder), rookie cornerback Senquez Golson (shoulder) and linebacker Shawn Lemon (Achilles) all will begin the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list because of injuries.
The good news that the injury to Pouncey is not deemed serious so he is expected back relatively soon.
Adams has the most serious injury as he had a back procedure done on July 20 and is expected to miss four weeks. Adams is entering the final season of his rookie contract.
As for Golson, who was a surprise on the list, Tomlin had no timetable on his potential return as he simply said that he couldn’t go.
In other news from the first reporting day of camp:
– Running back Le’Veon Bell said the NFL still hasn’t heard his appeal on his three-game suspension and hasn’t been given an idea of when it will be heard.
– Speaking of Bell, the third-year pro said his injured knee is at 100 percent and hasn’t ever felt better coming into a season.
– The Steelers moved the start time of their August 23 preseason game against the Green Bay Packers from an 8pm kickoff to 1pm. The move was made to accommodate the schedule switch for the Pittsburgh Pirates, who had their game that day against the San Francisco Giants to 8pm as it will now appear on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.
