The Pitt Panthers saw its 10-game win streak snapped Thursday night in ugly fashion, falling to No. 21 Louisville 59-41, its first ACC loss of the season.
Michael Young led the Panthers with 18 points and eight rebounds, but he was the lone bright spot on the night for No. 20 Pitt (14-2, 3-1).
The Cardinals were led in scoring by Damion Lee and Chinanu Onuaku, both with 18. Onuaku also pulled down 10 rebounds for Louisville (14-3, 3-1).
It wasn’t just a loss for the Panthers, but it was the fact that they played their ugliest game of the season at the offensive end of the floor.
Pitt, who came into the game as one of the highest scoring teams in the nation, scored just 17 points in the first half, trailing at the break 20-17.
The Panthers shot just 28.6 percent from the floor and made just 1-of-11 three-point attempts (9.1 percent) on the night. Louisville also made just 1-of-11 from behind the arc, but had a 34-20 advantage on points in the paint.
More disturbing is the fact that Pitt entered the game leading the nation in free throw percentage but shot just 12 of 20 (60 percent) from the line.
Even more disturbing was the fact that Pitt entered the game as one of the nation’s best in terms of taking care of the basketball, but committed 19 turnovers on the night, as the Panthers offense never got into a rhythm.
Pitt will be back in action on Saturday when they play host to Boston College.
