A season of misery is finally over for the Power after they lost to the Spokane Shock 61-43 on the road Saturday night. Pittsburgh’s final record of 4-14 is the worst of their three seasons in Pittsburgh.
The Power made it a game through the first half and withstood three Spokane touchdowns in four plays early in the first quarter. The Power even battled back to take the lead at halftime 36-27. Unfortunately their third quarter scoring woes which have been a problem all season continued. Overall the Shock outscored Pittsburgh 34-7 in the second half to blow the game wide open.
Shane Austin attempted 61 passes on the night (the second highest total in league history) but only completed 32 of them. 315 yards and six touchdowns is a solid night however his three interceptions tell a different story.
Christian Wise had a huge game for the Power. He caught 13 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns before leaving with an apparent hamstring injury. Mike Washington had nine catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns with his second being the 100th touchdown grab of his career.
The Power defense did a great job in the first half of keeping the team in the game as Sergio Gilliam and Alvin Ray Jackson both had interceptions and the Power also forced a few turnovers on downs.
Spokane quarterback Erik Meyer was only 18 of 30 for 249 yards and six touchdowns to go with his two interceptions. He also added a rushing touchdown. Adron Tennell was his usual dominant self with 10 catches for 131 yards and five touchdowns.
Now the offseason begins for a team that has gone 9-27 over the past two seasons. It’ll be interesting to see what, if any, changes are made to try and get this team on a winning path. What players and coaches will return next year? It’s a puzzle that doesn’t have a simple answer but one that must be solved nonetheless.
