The Pittsburgh Panthers are off to a hot start in their new basketball conference this season. The Panthers have a 7-0 record early on and three of the those wins came this past week. In each of those wins, Pitt was led by senior guard Lamar Patterson.
In the first game of the week, a 76-53 victory over Texas Tech in the Legends Classic tournament, Patterson scored 23 points to lead the way. The 6-foot-5 guard hit 8 of 13 shots (.615 %) while adding 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. He was also a perfect 3 for 3 from the free throw line and hit 4 of 7 from behind the arch.
On Wednesday Patterson and the Panthers took down Stanford, 88-67 to win the Legends Classic. Patterson again had over 20 points, scoring a career-high 24 this time. He shot a smooth 6 for 10 from the field including 3 of 6 from three-point range and 9 of 11 from the charity stripe. Patterson also added 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals in the win. He was also named the Legends Classic tournament MVP.
Finally, Patterson scored 18 in an 84-67 victory over Duquesne. In that win, Patterson hit 7 of 14 shots from the floor. He also added 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals.
For the season Patterson is averaging 17.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
For his efforts this past week, Patterson is Pittsburgh Sporting News’ player of the week.
