In this day and age of college basketball, one-and-done seems to be the trend for college studs. For Pittsburgh, two players stuck around for four years and had great success as Panthers.
Lamar Patterson and Talib Zanna are atop nearly every statistical category for the Panthers this season and played big roles in any success their squad had this season.
Patterson, a 6-foot-5 senior, led PITT in scoring and assists, posting 17.1 points and 4.3 assists per game this season. He shot 44 percent from the field, including 39 percent from the 3-point line and 75 percent from the foul line. He also averaged a team-leading 32.6 minutes on the floor. The senior forward scored in double figures in every game but three this past season.
For his career, Patterson averaged 9.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.
Zanna, a 6-foot-9 senior, scored 13.0 points and posted a team-leading 8.6 rebounds per game this season. He shot 59 percent from the floor and 67 percent from the foul line. He was third on the team in minutes played, playing in 30.3 minutes per game. He also posted 11 double-doubles and scored in double figures in all but seven games.
For his career, Zanna averaged 10.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. He also had a 55.3 career field goal percentage.
For their successful careers at PITT, Patterson and Zanna are this week’s Pittsburgh Sporting News players of the week.
