In the First Round of Playoffs of the Women’s Football Alliance, the Pittsburgh Passion defeated the Detroit Dark Angels, 34–0. Pittsburgh now advances to the Second Round of Playoffs and will travel to Maryland to play the DC Divas on Saturday June 30th. This brings the Passion one step closer on the quest to the Championship at Heinz Field.
Beginning in the 1st Quarter, Passion Running Back Ciara Chic drew a 1st Down on a 16-yard run. Rachel Wojdowski clinched a 38-yard touchdown reception from Quarterback Amanda Haeg. The Extra Point was good. The offense continued with a 19-yard reception by Angela Baker. 1st Down by Sonja Osselborn with a 27-yard run. Haeg threw a 31-yard touchdown to Wojdowski, and the extra point was good. End of 1st Quarter, Passion led 14–0.
Into the 2nd Quarter, Krystal Cozzo and Sharon Vasquez both had roaring interceptions. Vasquez ran hers back for 36 yards. Haeg completed the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run. At the half, Passion led 21–0. Into the 3rd Quarter, Haeg delivered with another 18-yard touchdown run. Extra point was good. With 2 minutes left in the 3rd, Janice Masters clocked an explosive Pick 6, intercepting and running it back 43 yards for a touchdown – marking the first defensive score in Passion playoff history. Extra point was blocked. End of 3rd Quarter, Passion led 34–0.
With 5 minutes left in the 4th Quarter, Jordan Zeunges grabbed the 4th interception of the game. Wide Receiver Tammy Spencer brought all fans to their feet with a 50-yard reception from Quarterback Kara Prentice. End of 4th Quarter, Passion won, 34–0. Cumulatively, Octavia Griswold led the defense with 8 tackles. Janice Masters and Alex McAtee had 7 and 5 tackles respectively. Statistics graciously provided by Nathan Geisler.
